What is the Mining Learnership Programme?
The Mining Learnership Programme is an 18-month structured program that provides hands-on experience and theoretical training in mining operations. Participants will gain practical skills in various aspects of mining, from machinery operation to plant and mining maintenance, all while ensuring safety and sustainability in operations.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mining Learnership participant, you will be involved in a variety of activities, including:
- Safety, Health, and Environment:
- Adhere to health and safety regulations during all training and practical work assignments.
- Actively participate in Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) assessments and risk evaluations.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Training and Hands-On Learning:
- Participate in both theoretical and practical training sessions throughout the 18-month program.
- Perform supervised tasks in plant and mining operations, including machinery operation, processing techniques, and plant maintenance.
- Support Operations and Develop Skills:
- Assist in daily plant activities, such as monitoring equipment and recording operational data.
- Troubleshoot minor issues, ensuring smooth operations across all mining processes.
- Develop technical skills in equipment handling, plant operations, and production optimization.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Record your training progress, complete assessments, and submit required reports to track your competency and development.
- Community Engagement:
- Represent Anglo American positively, especially in interactions with local communities and surrounding areas.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for this exciting opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.
- Employment Status: Currently unemployed and not enrolled in formal education programs.
- Qualifications:
- A Grade 12 certificate or N3 Technical qualification with Mathematics Literacy (or Mathematics).
- Physical Science would be advantageous.
- Driver’s License: A valid South African driver’s license.
- Additional Documents: Proof of South African citizenship, ID document, and residential address.
Preference will be given to applicants from designated groups, particularly those from the JTG District and other labour-sending areas within the Northern Cape.
